The 5 Natural Beauty Products I Can’t Live Without Right Now

Share Button

I’m a simple girl. Well, let me back that up a little. I’m a simple girl…now.

When it comes to beauty, I used to have piles and piles of products I thought I absolutely needed to get through the week.

Then came my natural and non-toxic lifestyle overhaul. I almost cried getting rid of so many products which set me back thousands of dollars over time. However, it was so worth it being that many of those products could be harmful and hormonally disruptive in the long run.

In addition, I just don’t have the time, (or patience to be honest), to put on more than a couple of staple products. If I’m lucky, the few products I do put on will actually stay on and not end up on the palms of my one year old’s hands.

Here are a couple of my favorite products I’ve had on rotation for the last month or so:

Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter

Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter

This staple product is a workhorse and can be used for so many areas of the body. I’ve spoke so many times in the past on the blog about how hard the water is in our part of New Jersey, which leaves us with skin so ashy it should be a sin.

Plain Raw Shea Butter fights this by leaving the skin so moisturized, I don’t need to reapply at all during the day. It might be a little thick for some, but I absolutely love it. I also love Shea Nut Oil, which might be better for some who aren’t in love with the thickness of the raw butter.

I also use shea butter as a styling product for my family’s hair. I rub it between my hands to make it liquify before applying it to my daughter and son’s hair. I use it to twist my hair with some water at night before bed.

I also use it instead of a wax or pomade in the thicker (not liquefied) form with a little water to slick my hair back when I put it back in a low bun or ponytail.

Lastly, for those wondering about the “clean rating” of this product when it comes to toxicity, don’t worry. It scored a 0 in the Think Dirty app, which is the best and cleanest rating a product can get. This particular product from this brand is also Fair Trade which means the company adheres to practices that ensures the workers are treated with respect and paid a fare wage.

Trader Joe’s Face Wash with Tea Tree Oil

This oldie but goodie was an impulse buy during one of my shopping trips last month. I knew I was out of face wash and didn’t feel like waiting for something to be delivered from Amazon. So, in the cart it went.

Once I started using it again, I remembered why I liked it to begin with.

It is a simple affordable gateway drug of a natural product and it’s awesome for everyday use. I have pretty normal skin but still have my irritated days as I get towards the latter half of my cycle and it works for all of the above.

The ingredients are simple and the product scores a 2 and/or 3 in the Think Dirty app. The difference in scores probably comes from a change in formulation. Either way, a score of 0-3 is where I like to stay when it comes to products.

For something that has tea tree oil, it is not super drying and does not have an overbearing smell as pure tea tree oil does. But, it is there and not masked which is to be expected and welcomed so you know the actual oil is in the formulation. Overall, its a great product in my book.

Please be aware that the face wash is best purchased in store. It is cheapest there and always available. However, some people do sell it on Amazon, and I have linked it here to check out for yourself.

Burt’s Bees Mattifying Powder Foundation with Bamboo

Burt’s Bees Mattifying Powder Foundation with Bamboo

Burt’s Bees is another green beauty brand that makes it easy for anyone to start their natural beauty product journey. Their products are just about everywhere, even Target.

I picked up a couple new products from their makeup line a couple months ago and have been slowly falling in love with them.

In addition to them being super accessible and available, they are hella affordable for how great they score on the “clean” meter. Most of the products are less than $30 which is not the norm in the green beauty world. A lot of their products score a 0-3 on the Think Dirty app, which is great and super clean.

I’ve been using the mattifying powder as a finishing powder or when I need to tone down my oiliness. It works just like any other powder and easily blends in. As with most natural makeups, I did end up having to reapply simply because the lack of chemicals make the lasting power a bit less in comparison. But I am used to that and prefer it to the chemicals.

However, I do wish they had more colors in the line. More specifically, I wish there were deeper and darker colors in the line. I chose the Nutmeg color and it was one of the darker ones available. If my skin tone was any darker, I couldn’t get it at all. Hopefully, this will be addressed in the future.

Green Tidings Natural Deodorant All Natural Deodorant

Green Tidings Natural Deodorant

I came across this deodorant last year immediately postpartum when I was walking around smelling like a big bag of red onions. I’m not kidding. My other half said it, not me.

This was the only deodorant that helped me feel closer to myself.

To this day, I prefer this deodorant when I know I will be in especially stressful situations or out and about in the warmer weather.

It is an extra strength formulation which I swear goes toe to toe with the chemical rich extra strength alternatives on the market. It is made with magnesium, coconut oil, shea butter, and baking soda. However, it is also made without baking soda for those sensitive to it. It is a bit more expensive than other deodorants at $14 a stick, it is so worth it. I have added it to my subscribe and save list on Amazon so I get a small discount and always have it on hand.

There’s one last thing I would like to add though. For those who are new to natural deodorants, please watch the video below BEFORE taking the leap. So many people switch to natural deodorants and get upset because their body has a reaction. I hope the video helps explain what’s going on for clarity.

Rahua Defining Hair Spray

Rahua Defining Hair Spray

Le sigh. Rahua is my absolute favorite higher end beauty line. Their products always score amazingly on all clean beauty rating sites and I have yet to try anything that I wasn’t impressed with. Their Omega 9 Hair Mask is heaven in a bottle.

Their Defining Hair Spray is my must have splurge. It is the finishing touch to my twist outs before heading out and makes my big hair stay defined almost all day. And just to build some context around that statement, I usually only use water and shea butter for the twists themselves, so it has to be this hairspray that makes stay as awesome as they do.

I never have a sticky feeling on my hair nor white flakes, EVER. It’s just amazing.

BUT, it is on the pricey side. But I have come to terms with it and will continue buying it because it just works for my hair.
