If there are two things I talk too much about, it’s food, non-toxic feminine products, and plants…and food…ok, that’s four things.

But honestly, I love finding low and non-toxic feminine products to share about with my digital community (and anyone else who will listen to be honest).

The Honey Pot Company is one of the fastest growing companies offering very unique and never before seen feminine care products on the market. What makes the company that much more amazing is it’s founded and run by one of the very few African American women ever able to raise over $1Million in venture capital, Bea Dixon.

As someone not new to the green beauty and cleaner labeled products scene, I unfortunately know how few Women of Color there are in this space. I had the pleasure of briefly meeting Bea Dixon and trying The Honey Pot cleansing products years ago when she was sharing about her company at the Independent Beauty Expo in 2016 (if my memory serves me right).

At the time, I had a feeling the company would blow up because of her energy and purpose, but the recently surge of growth is truly inspirational.

What Exactly Is A Menstrual Cup?

If you’re new to the cup game, where have you been?

I have been a constant advocate and reviewer of multiple cups over the last couple of years. I even shared my entire collection (at the time) of menstrual cups on my YouTube channel.

Of course those who’ve never heard of them completely thought I was crazy. But at least it sparked a conversation about the need for cleaner and less toxic options.

A Menstrual Cup is a cup shaped collection device made to offer a less toxic option for those who menstruate. Menstrual cup use has increased over the last couple of years as the awareness of potential toxic chemicals in period products.

The Honey Pot Company recently released their own line of menstrual cups and I was super excited to give them a try.

My Honest Thoughts

The Honey Pot’s cup at first glance is not much different than others, or at least that’s what someone not used to them would say. However, I did notice some slight differences that I loved and a couple that I thought were worth sharing as notable things to consider.

Here’s what you should know about the cup:

#1 How Much Is The Honey Pot Co. Menstrual Cup?

The Honey Pot’s cup is one of the lowest priced cups on the market. Well, let me take a step back from that blanket statement to clarify. It’s one of the lowest priced cups on the market sold by a well known company. A brand that’s been seen on the shelves in Target and other major stores. There’s plenty of dirt cheap cups sold on Amazon and other websites which I will leave to others to try out due to quality and customer service concerns of mine.

At less than $22, it’s accessible to just about anyone. Some of the others sold by companies in the same tier as them and even even more well known all start at around $35 for one cup.

The only other cup brand in this same category that I’m aware of at the time of publishing which has a per unit cost of around $20 is Saalt’s Duo Pack. They offer two cups of different sizes in the same package to allow someone to see which size works for them.

However the package costs $42 up front which works out to be $21 each. Which is not the same, I know but I’m just pointing that out.

So, for that, The Honey Pot’s cup is an amazing option for those who were looking to try a cup by a reputable company at a great price.

#2 Where Can I Find The Honey Pot Co. Menstrual Cup?

So this is going to be a kinda pro and kinda con.

Based on the amazing increase in business Honey Pot has seen over the last couple months, just about everything on their website has been sold out on a consistent basis. I know they are diligently working to fix this because I am on their email list and they have been awesome at keeping everyone updated.

Despite all of this, their cups have been available and shipping timely. I know because that’s how I was able to purchase it, even after the initial rush when launching.

As mentioned in a lot of her interviews, Bea Dixon mentioned that they are still launching new products which were in the works pre-COVID. She recommended everyone continuously check the website or social for updates.

So, this is a definite plus because the cup is available even in these crazy times.

#3 How Much Does The Honey Pot Co Cup Hold?

So for us cup lovers, we are very aware of the importance and differences in shapes. The shape and size of the cup can make a huge difference in how much a menstrual cup can hold.

How much can a menstrual cup hold?

After trying about 5 or so cups, I started paying attention to the shapes of them even before I purchased new ones. And yes, I have more cups than anyone needs, but in my Tabitha Brown voice “I Can If I Want To Because It’s My Business…” 🙂

But seriously, the shape truly will make or break a cup for me, especially since having children.

The Honey Pot Co cups comes in 2 sized much like most cups on the market. Size 1 and Size 2.

Size 1 is usually for those with light to medium flow and Size 2 for medium to heavy flow. While there’s some debate over it, I find that size 1 in most cup brands too small after having children. So, I opted for size 2.

Through trial and error, I know I need a cup that flares a bit more at the top. There are some cups which are very narrow like a champagne flute and leads to leaks, at least for me.

The Honey Pot cup has a great flared top which allows for it to be more secure when using the bathroom. Some cups like the one made by the Tampax line are made with an extremely flared top to make sure they stay put, especially when going number…you get the idea.

However, the shape and texture of the material makes the Honey Pot cup a win in my opinion. As someone with a medium to heavy flow, I find it works well for me.

#4 Can You Pee With A Menstrual Cup In?

Absolutely.

In fact, the Honey Pot Co.’s Cup is one of the easiest to use the bathroom with. The shape is great since it doesn’t put pressure on the bladder. Some cups with a fuller bottom and flared top run the possibility of this happening.

#5 What About Honey Pot Menstrual Cup Removal?

Here’s where it can get a little tricky. Some may wonder if a menstrual cup can get stuck.

If there’s one other crucial piece of the cup that I look at when choosing a new one for my accidental collection, it has to be the stem.

The stem is the long piece attached to the bottom of cups meant to aid in it’s removal. Some are long, some are short, thick, or even made into a loop. Regardless, most companies add one to help it’s users navigate the sometimes intimidating part of taking the cup out.

The Honey Pot’s cup stem is quite firm and long. It definitely feels strong enough to withstand a good amount of tugging (which you honestly do not have to do with much force when taking the cup out just for clarity), but it’s a bit cumbersome for me to wear attached internally.

Removing the Honey Pot’s cup is super easy with or without the stem. The Honey Pot Menstrual Cup directions are readily available from the brand. However, I find it easiest to remove the cup by pinching the bottom and sliding it out.

However, if you cut the stem off, be mindful of how you cut the stem off. Be sure to round off the edges of the stem that remains to ensure it is comfortable when wearing.

That’s it. I honestly love the cup overall and have recommended it to others. Once in correctly, you can’t feel it at all and it holds a good amount of fluids even on the heavier days. When I need to change it more often due to flow, I adjust.

I am happy this product was released to help women during this time we are home. It reduces the amount of trips needed to purchase feminine supplies and saves money.
