Sweet Turmeric Oatmeal Recipe

Share Button

Eat more turmeric they say. Eat more oatmeal too because it’s good for you. But, a sweet turmeric oatmeal recipe? Really, Tiffany?!

This last weekend was a doozy. There was quite a bit going on but that’s #momlife. Each day can often seem like one long loop nowadays with my lack of sleep 9 months postpartum. This can make for a pretty battered immune system to stand up against when those common cold germies come knocking at my door. Thus, me being left with that “I-Think-I-Might-Be-Getting-Sick” feeling.

So to help my system along, I went into full preventative mode by taking my favorite natural supplements I shared in this post.

In addition, I wanted to include Turmeric into my regimen because it helps reduce inflammation. I usually get major inflammation in my sinus cavities before, during, and for a short time after the major part of my cold subsides.

Before I go any further, I want to stress that using turmeric and a lot of the natural methods I share is meant to be used in a purely routine manner. By that I mean, it is not meant to cure or bring immediate relief to ailments. While I am not the biggest prescription drug advocate, I do respect that they have their proper place in healing. To be honest, I believe that keeps me from being as “crunchy” as other natural moms.

My approach on things is to add the body in healing itself as much as possible through natural means. However, there are times when illnesses might be too far advanced and no amount of essential oils on it will make a significant difference. (Yes, that was a joke).

I say this to remind you that health is more than just the immediate absence of disease. I take a preventative approach.

So, adding turmeric to oatmeal should not be reserved for only when you’re feeling sick. I just so happened to remember it then. Turmeric is such a great and beneficial spice to one’s health that this oatmeal can be eaten everyday if you want. In fact, that is actually a great idea.

My goal is to help find new ways to add health supporting elements like this to everyday life.

BLACK PEPPER

Whatever you do, whichever turmeric recipe you make, just be sure to add black pepper into it. Black pepper is the secret ingredient to making turmeric more bioavailable in the body. Click here to check out the science behind it.

Let’s get started with the recipe, shall we?

Sweet Turmeric Oatmeal

(Makes 2-3 Servings)

What you will need: I opted for organic because it is pretty budget friendly to in this recipe. It is not required, although read here for more info on why choosing organic oats is important

2 Cups Organic Rolled Oats (This is a pretty good one)

4 Cups Water

1/2 +/- Teaspoon Organic Turmeric (This is the one I use)

A Dash of Black Pepper

1/2 Teaspoon of Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil (This is a pretty good one)

Vanilla Extract, Cinnamon, & Sweetener of Choice (To Taste)

  1. Fill the pot with the water. Immediately add the turmeric to the water. The goal is to allow the spice to completely be absorbed by the oats so I cook it in the water rather than add it towards the end.
  2. Prepare rolled oats as package states. I usually set the water on medium to medium high heat and wait until the water starts beading up in the pot right before it starts a rolling boil. Then I add the oats and let it start boiling for a minute or so, then bring the heat down to a simmer for another 10 minutes or until desired lecture is achieved. I like to do it this way so the oatmeal is creamier with no added milk.
  3. Once the oatmeal is done cooking, add all the additional spices. Once the sweetener is added, you will more than likely not taste the turmeric as much as you would expect.
  4. Enjoy!

That’s it. It’s super simple. This is a great way to add this amazing health boosting spice into your everyday routine.

Let me know if you try this out.
