Ora’s Amazing Herbal Newborn Salve (Non-Toxic Diaper Balm)

Diaper balms are one of the most registered for items in the baby must have world. Aside from diapers, it is one of the products you will use for YEARS until your baby transitions to using the potty full time.

When I had my son 9 years ago, I used what everyone else I knew did up until that point. That good old 2 letter diaper balm that seemed like a miracle cream was slathered on him each and every diaper change.

Little did I know, there was no miracle in that tube. In fact, it’s really nothing more than petroleum, lanolin, and a bit of vitamin A & D from cod liver oil. The vitamins A & D are not even one of the first ingredients labeled so they are not even the “star” products in the formulation.

I know that petroleum and lanolin have been used forever as skin protectants. However, my research in the last couple of years has shown me there are better alternatives made from more natural oils other than refined crude oil and sheep’s wool oil.

One of my top 2 favorite natural diaper balms is Ora’s Amazing Herbal Newborn Salve.

What Makes It Noteworthy?

This diaper (and all over) balm is made from super simple but effective ingredients such as Grapeseed Oil, Calendula, Licorice Root, Beeswax, and Vitamin E. All of the oils are Non-GMO and expertly curated.

In fact, this salve is Verified by the Environmental Working Group. This is a label not easily achieved by many products on the market.

It is also packaged in glass which prevents the possibility of any chemicals leeching from plastic into the product.

Who Is This Product For?

This diaper and skin salve can be used by any one or any baby. It was made by a mom who holds degrees in biology and nutrition when her daughter was diagnosed with eczema. The simple ingredients make it possible for this to be used by anyone, just about anywhere on the body.

I have used it on my daughter during diaper changes for the skin in sensitive areas where any other diaper balm would go, as a moisturizer on her and my own skin in a pinch, and even dabbed it on my lips when I could not find a lip balm.

What Does It Smell Like?

It truly doesn’t have much of a scent in my opinion. It has a very faint scent from the essential oil infusions, but it is extremely mild.

What Are The Highlights?

I love this product overall. I enjoy using it on my family and love the fact that it’s so clean. I appreciate the thoughtfulness of packaging it in glass and the time and love put in to get it EWG Verified.

What Are The Misses/Downsides?

This is always a tough question to answer. When it comes to this product, the great aspects of it could be seen as downsides to some.

The fact that it is packaged in glass could be seen as a con for some who are used to things being packaged in lightweight plastic. However, this can be allocated by opting for the smaller lightweight travel jar that is available.

In addition, the simple oil blend can liquify in hotter weather and must be considered when put in the baby bag. Again, I have become accustomed to this type of product and avoid spillage by just putting this or any other diaper balm in a plastic or reusable lined fabric zip top bag inside the diaper bag.

The last 2 points are again things those used to purchasing natural products that aren’t yet available in brick and mortar stores might be used to but others may have to thin about.

The first is the fact that it is not readily available in your big box store or pharmacy. This is why I purchase these types of items two at a time and keep an eye on how close I am to being empty.

Lastly, the price point for this (like most higher quality products) is higher than the chemical filled options in store. In general, for this go around with motherhood, I got around this by purchasing less items and clothes that I would not end up using (like a baby bath with a shower option or a million different outfits for her when we are mostly in the house during the week), in order to budget for higher quality personal care products.

Overall, I love this balm and highly recommend it for moms who are looking for a clean diaper balm. It can be purchased here on Ora’s Amazing Herbal’s Site or on Amazon.
