Tamanu oil is a nut oil from an evergreen tree from the islands of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. It has been traditionally used topically for a wide range of skin injuries.

In a recent study, calophyllum inophyllum (Tamanu oil), was shown to provide healing and antibiotic properties. This supports the ethno-medical usage, which is amazing.

Erin’s Faces Tamanu Oil: What You Should Know Before You Use It

Erin’s Faces is one of my favorite woman owned small businesses. It’s also local to the NY/NJ area with the headquarters located right in Millburn, NJ.

Their products are made with love and high quality natural ingredients. As someone committed to finding clean labeled beauty products, I was so excited to find another brand that’s in line with my standards while addressing my skin’s concerns.

Erin’s Faces cares enough to provide glass bottle containers for many of their products. This is in line with sustainability and potential toxicity concerns which come along with using plastic.

Their Tamanu oil is made without essential oils which can potentially irritate those with sensitive skin. They also use organic Tamanu oil without added parabens, fillers, or other ingredients that could cause an allergic reactions.

And while products with “it” ingredients like hyaluronic acid are all the rage right now, I honestly find myself reaching for Erin’s Faces Tamanu Oil on a regular basis.

The oil itself is rich and thick. One would think it would be too heavy for the skin when applying it or rubbing it between your fingers, but that’s not the case.

It glides onto the skin and is absorbed easily.

I’ve found through trial and error that I get the best results when I apply the oil right after I get out of the shower. I find that it lasts longer through the day and I don’t have to reapply, even on the coldest days.

The Tamanu oil does have a specific smell which is pretty unique. It is a little bit grassy, but dissipates pretty quickly.

I also used it on my hair which is not an advertised use, but it really works well for mine. I have curly hair which gets pretty dry and LOVES to be heavily moisturized.

So I have been adding about 5 generous drops to my hair (by first rubbing it between my palms to disperse the product then running it through my hair), after washing and conditioning. I then follow up with a little shea butter before twisting or styling my hair.

I have also been using the Erin’s Faces Tamanu oil on my stretch marks first thing after getting out of the shower. I have noticed the skin’s surface has softened more than any other product I’d used before.

So, if you are on the look to for a new super hero of an oil to add to your routine, I’d highly recommend Erin’s Face Tamanu Oil.
