In the world of wellness, pain, and sleep enhancements, there’s always a new “cure all” product hitting the market. It’s almost hard to keep up with them all.

However, magnesium lotion and oils are starting to become a staple in people’s self care routine. Mo’ Maggie Magnesium Lotion is one of the best magnesium lotions I’ve found on Amazon.

PLEASE NOTE: I am not a doctor. I am sharing from my personal experience. If you have questions, please check with your medical professional.

What is Magnesium Lotion?

Magnesium is one of the most important minerals used in our body. It comes into play with the functioning of more than 300 enzyme systems in the body. Some of these functions include regulating nerve and muscle function even helping restless legs and migraines.

Magnesium lotion and oils are simply lotions and sprays made using topical magnesium to help someone apply it on the skin.

What are the benefits of magnesium lotion?

The main benefit I’ve found in using the magnesium lotions and oils as opposed to taking supplements is the ease of use. In addition, it is very hard for me to take too much magnesium and end up with a stomachache when applying it in lotion form.

I personally use it for a variety of reasons including restless leg treatment, headache prevention, supporting breastmilk production during the second half of my cycle, getting better quality sleep, and preventing and treating menstrual cramps. Although some of these are more anecdotal (and you should always consult your doctor because I AM NOT ONE), I’ve had many many positive experiences by making sure it’s included into my routine or food based thresholds are hit on a daily basis.

People have used magnesium to improve sleep, anxiety, and to relax muscles overall through common epsom salt soaks.

While magnesium can be found in foods, it may not always be possible to incorporate the magnesium rich foods in the amounts necessary on a daily basis to experience a difference. In addition, nutrients are only as effective as they can be when they are absorbed correctly. This has to do with any nutrient or mineral, not just magnesium.

Some people may find it easier than others to absorb magnesium, (or any other nutrient or mineral), from foods.

Personally, I seem to have trouble absorbing it in the amounts I desire from foods alone without having to eat huge amounts.

One of my recent favorite finds is Magnesium Lotion. I’ve since made it part of nightly routine which includes journaling and a nice cup of tea.

Pros and Cons of Magnesium Lotion

Mo’ Maggie Magnesium Lotion is one with some of the highest ratings on Amazon. And the testimonials are truly what made me want to try them out. But I needed to put it to the test to find out does magnesium lotion work.

One of the pros of most magnesium lotions are their ability to be well tolerated by most people. Some people have issues taking magnesium in oral supplements because too much can lead to digestive issues such as loose bowels.

This was what I found after using Mo’ Maggie Magnesium Lotion. While I have accidentally taken too much magnesium supplements (and found myself having an unpleasant night in the bathroom), using magnesium lotion has always been a positive experience. This particular brand is potent enough to work without having to use too much, while being gentle on the body.

Another great thing about the Mo Maggie brand (by Mo Natural) is the Lil Mo Maggie Magnesium Lotion with a lower concentration of magnesium. This is great for those who want to start with a smaller amount of magnesium or children. While it is always best to check with your doctor about using something new on your baby or child, reviews point to it being one of the best magnesium lotions for babies.

I even used both magnesium lotion products to help with my restless legs during pregnancy.

One con about most magnesium lotions that this one also shares is it’s slight stinging when first applied. Yes, magnesium lotion can sting when applied on the skin. Apparently, it has something to do with either our lack of magnesium in our system or the pH of the lotion (or magnesium oil spray) compared to our skin.

However, the stinging usually goes away within 15-20 minutes after applied.

Here are my thoughts on each Mo Maggie Product…

What You Should Know About Mo Maggie Magnesium Lotion

Mo Maggie Magnesium Lotion is made for those who love topical forms of magnesium but aren’t thrilled about how magnesium oil can leave the skin a bit dry. I found this happened to me, though I simply added extra moisture to my skin once I washed it off.

However, the premise of the lotion is it’s ability to provide the benefits of magnesium with the added perks of hydration from shea butter and other oils. There’s about 250 mg per tsp of pure Zechstein seabed sourced magnesium.

The Lil Mo Maggie Magnesium Lotion has 100 mg per tsp. This milder formula is meant for those looking for a less potent mix and/or kids. It’s approved by several high board standards and scores perfectly on the Comedogenic Rating Scale meaning it’s not supposed to clog pores.

My Experience With Mo Maggie Magnesium Lotion

The first thing I noticed and loved about Mo Maggie’s Magnesium Lotion is how thick and rich the formula feels on the skin. It actually takes a bit of working and massaging to get the lotion to disappear completely. It’s that rich. I like using this magnesium lotion for sleep.

This makes the application of the magnesium lotion easier not only because of the increase in moisture compared to magnesium oil, but because of the decrease in stinging on the skin that magnesium based products have. This stinging is totally normal. Click here to check out a couple thoughts on why it makes the skin temporarily itchy.

I love this method of delivery. There’s not a noticeable scent so that is great for those sensitive to it. It’s easy to apply pretty much anywhere you would like without the dripping and potential mess from magnesium oils.

As far as the Lil Mo Maggie’s Magnesium Lotion, it’s definitely one to consider adding to your line up of products to keep on hand. We recently had an episode where it came to the rescue.

A couple of weeks ago, my son had a long day of playing basketball outside on one of the warmer days we’ve had so far. Once he came indoors, he quickly buckled over in pain from leg cramps.

My family sprang into action to help him grabbing water and massaging the muscle. I then remembered I had the Lil Mo Maggie Lotion with the milder formulation and massaged that into his legs.

Within the next 30 minutes, he was much better and said the pain was mild but pretty much gone. As someone that’s had many cramps over my life, I know that water, massage, and bananas help, but still leave you feeling pretty wiped out and the muscles pretty tense. The magnesium seemed to help his leg muscles relax.

Where To Apply Magnesium Lotion For Sleep

One of the most frequent ways I use magnesium lotion in my daily routine is for better sleep. Applying some magnesium lotion on the bottom of my feet right before bed helps me get a more sound night’s sleep.

I also like to rub some of the magnesium lotion on my calves to help prevent restless legs at night and promote better sleep.

I would absolutely recommend these products to others and have especially on my Instagram account. I have already received word back from others in my community who’ve tried it and loved it both for their kids and adults in the family.

If you are new to topical magnesium and want to try it out, this would be the easiest way to give it a spin. Click here to check it out on their website, and here to see it on Amazon.
