How Not To Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease

how-not-to-die-book-review

This book is THE book of all books when it comes to settling the argument of whether a plant based lifestyle is really all it’s hyped up to be. Dr. Michael Greger has dedicated his life to sharing the benefits of eating a whole food plant based diet. Through his research heavy approach, he breaks down each of the top (mostly lifestyle related) diseases out today including diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, and more along with how someone could NOT DIE from them using this way of eating. I did a full book review HERE, but to save you the time, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT! All of the proceeds from the book goes to Dr. Greger’s Non-Profit organization NutritionFacts.Org, which is committed to continuing Dr. Greger’s mission of sharing this information. Oh, did I mention that all of the research and information on Greger’s site is absolutely FREE!!

WomanCode: Perfect Your Cycle, Amplify Your Fertility, Supercharge Your Sex Drive, and Become a Power Source

woman code-alisa-vitti

When I first came across Alisa Vitti’s TEDTalk almost 5 years ago, I truly had a bit of a hallelujah moment. During this talk, she explained how she healed her hormonal issues after being basically cast off by the medical community to live a life on prescription medications to treat her PCOS. In this talk, she broke down each of the weeks in a woman’s cycle and how women have been approaching the cycle incorrectly, thus causing and making existing hormonal issues worse.

Her solution is a protocol centered around eating to support your system instead of stressing it. She owns and runs a business around this system called Flo Living.

At first I was skeptical. I truly thought it couldn’t be that easy (or hard) as eating a certain way during specific times of the month to alleviate hormonal issues.

Boy was I wrong. This book was the catalyst to me starting my own journey which ended in me fixing my own hormonal issues. Long story short, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!

The Whole Foods Diet: The Lifesaving Plan for Health and Longevity

the-whole-foods-diet-book-review

This was a book that I admit I was reluctant to pick up. Yes, it was totally because it was available ON SALE at Whole Foods. The fact that it was made by the Co-Founder and CEO of Whole Foods definitely made me take pause and think this was going to be some sort of propaganda on why Whole Foods Market is the THE best.

Much to my surprise, I was completely wrong. There was very little mention of Whole Foods the store in at all.

In this book, the owner explains why he and his family chooses to eat a whole food plant based diet. (And yes, the pun was definitely intended by him, not me). He provides scientific studies along with experience pieces on how this diet can improve, reverse, and treat many lifestyle diseases. He even admittedly early on in the book that he wouldn’t eat many of the things he sells in his store. Go figure!

This is definitely another book that I would recommend picking up. Click HERE to get a copy of your own.

Skin Cleanse: The Simple, All-Natural Program for Clear, Calm, Happy Skin

skin-cleanse-adana-grigore

If there is one life lesson I know for sure, it’s the fact that very little happens without a reason. I came across the brand S.W. Basics many many years ago when I started dabbling into natural products and saw the brand at Target. Although it was pricey compared to the other items on the shelf, the products were clean, mostly organic with simple ingredients.

Fast forward a couple of years, I had the opportunity to work with Bed Bath & Beyond on a project to help increase awareness of their Brooklyn based products at one of their new stores (click HERE to check out that video).

I instantly recognized the labels of the S.W.Basics line as soon as I walked in the store. I grabbed as much as I could and shared my love the brand AND the fact that it was based in my hometown, Brooklyn.

That same day, I came across the book Skin Cleanse by it’s owner. I knew I had to have it.

I was the perfect compliment to all of the changes I was making in my life and beauty routine. It had recipes and DIY projects that you could make at home to help support and detox your skin.

To make the entire thing even more eerily non-coincidental, while reading this book, I realized that the owner attended the school I was considering enrolling in to become a Certified Holistic Health Coach…the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. As an aside, Alisa Vitti mentioned a couple books up ALSO went to this same school. GO FIGURE!!

I took that as a sign, and decided to take the jump and finalized my enrollment in the school. I am currently studying and couldn’t be happier.

In a nutshell, Skin Cleanse is an amazing resource for anyone looking to get their skin back on track WITHOUT opting for medication.
